Fraud Prevention

Each business must be prepared to flag potential frauds. Those may come in different shapes and forms but generally the fraudsters will either be trying to make you pay in advance for deliveries that will never happen or make you send goods or raw materials abroad, for which you will never receive payment.

You should be aware that credit insurance policies will not protect you from losses resulting from fraud. Also filing a complaint to the police will generally not help you with recovery of the funds or goods lost.

This is a risk that you cannot transfer to the credit insurance market, so you should manage it.

We have made a short form to help you identify potential frauds. Our clients benefit from case-by-case advice and additional checks with credit insurers when a potential fraud is identified. 

Who initiated the contact?
The domain you are receiving emails from is... | Search for the company by typing its name in Google and see the domain (e.g. for Lidl Bulgaria "www.lidl.bg" comes out)
Does the website listed in the buyer's emails exactly match the official one? | Search for the company by typing its name in Google and see the domain (eg "www.lidl.bg" comes out for Lidl Bulgaria). See if the menus and functionalities match.
Does the prospect's business match the usual business of your buyers? | Eg. you sell meat products, and you receive a request from a company with home appliance stores
Does the customer advise that they will be given a limit by a trade credit insurer (e.g. Allianz Trade, Atradius or Coface)
Does he offer (unsolicited) to send financial information and business references about the company?
Does the customer negotiate on the offer you provide?
Is the customer in a hurry to receive goods on credit?
Does the buyer want to collect the goods themselves?
Are trucks without markings / branding of the transport company or the buyer company?
Did you contact the person you are writing to through contacts you found yourself? | Search for the company by typing its name in google and get a general phone / email or one of the procurement department. Confirm that the person works there and ask to be transferred.
When contacted through the contact information available on the company's official website, do they confirm the order? | Search for the company by typing its name in google and general phone / email or that of the procurement department.

Is the customer placing an unusually large order?
